(1) Before installing the floating oil seal, it is necessary to check whether the surface of the journal is too rough and whether there is any scar, especially if there is a long scar along the axial direction. If the surface of the journal is too rough, it is easy to damage the oil seal or accelerate the wear of the lip 1:3, damaging its sealing performance. If the surface of the journal is not disassembled properly, resulting in severe blunt marks, the oil seal lip will not fit the surface of the journal tightly, resulting in oil leakage. In the above two cases, the damaged part can be overlaid, and then the lathe can be turned round again according to the specified journal size, or the new shaft can be replaced. If there is only metal burr or flash of the shaft head in the journal, it can be smoothed with a file to prevent damage to the oil seal lip when installing the oil seal.
(2) Check whether the lip of floating oil seal is damaged, cracked or corroded by oil. If there are these defects, replace the oil seal with a new one.
(3) When installing the framework oil seal with floating oil seal, special installation tools shall be used to prevent the oil seal lip from being stretched, deformed or scratched. If there is no such tool, the following method can be used for installation: first, roll a layer of transparent hard plastic film (commonly known as cellophane) on the journal and even the head of the shaft, smear a little oil on the surface, sleeve the oil seal into the head of the shaft wrapped with plastic film, push the oil seal slowly to the journal with even force, and then pull out the plastic film. Note: it is not allowed to install the lip in the wrong direction. It should face the inner side where the oil is stored, and the side with trademark and specification should face the outer side. Because lip 1:3 can only be sealed unidirectionally, if the oil is sealed reversely, it will cause oil leakage, and the sealing effect will be weakened or invalid. It is necessary to avoid swaying the oil seal or knocking on the oil seal surface with hammers, or the oil seal will be damaged easily.
(4) During the installation of floating oil seal, keep the oil seal (especially the lip part) and the journal part clean, and pay attention not to make the oil seal self tightening spring jump out of the spring groove. If the self tightening spring is loose and the elastic force is weakened, it can be cut down as the case may be, and the two ends can be connected firmly for further use
